Wailing
Mātam in Islam (Wailing)
My brothers, the issue is that the Nabī said - transmitted by Bukhārī – Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه وسلم is saying that person is not from us although people attribute themselves to Āl al-Bayt but do those actions from which Rasūlullāh is free and alienated — Rasūlullāh said that that person is not from us who slaps his cheeks, tears open his clothes, and wails in the manner of the days of ignorance. Rasūlullāh صلى الله عليه وسلم is saying such a person is NOT from us!
And the son of Janāb Abū Mūsā Ashʿarī narrates - transmitted by Bukhārī or Muslim - that my father Abū Mūsā Ashʿarī who is a Ṣaḥābī, fainted and his head was in the lap of one of the women of our family. When he fainted, the women assumed that probably he died, hence these women started crying and wailing. When Janāb Abū Mūsā Ashʿarī became conscious, he said that I am free and alienated from whoever wails and do such things because the Nabī said, - transmitted by Bukhārī and Muslim – ِ such from alienated am I That “,meaning a woman, who raised her voice in times of hardship, and who tears her clothes up in times of hardship, and who becomes bald willingly in the time of hardship, I have no responsibility of her.”
And in the third Ḥadīth, the Nabī said that the woman who wails, if she will not repent [from wailing] before her death, then on the Day of Resurrection she will be raised in such a condition that an itchy long shirt will be upon her by which she will be having itchiness. We can't bear the worldly itchiness, and this will be a long shirt in the form of punishment and punishment is in the form of itchiness...
So, my brothers, the Dīn of Islam stops all that, and prohibits us from wailing, mourning, slapping cheeks, raising voices, and tearing up clothes in the time of hardship.
Worse Wailing
Tears coming out of the eyes is one thing and mourning, wailing, tearing up clothes, slapping the cheeks, and pulling hair, is completely another thing. Nowadays, the situation and the condition have gotten worse than just slapping cheeks or pulling hair, rather now the situation has got to the level of harming with metal chains, causing blood to release. And those who compel laypeople on harming themselves with metal chains and swords, they themselves when wail, they wail with hands only! The blood of poor laypeople is wasted, and they are the ones injured. Such emotional poems and elegies are read which compel laypeople to harm themselves to the extent of releasing blood, it is because in the fabricated narrations with exaggeration to the extreme levels, and lies are inserted, people get emotionally compelled to harm themselves.
